Florida has recovered $1.5 million in "financial restitution" from unemployment benefits website developer Deloitte Consulting, said Florida Department of Economic Opportunity's executive director Jesse Panuccio in an update Wednesday evening.
Panuccio said the state also has "imposed correction action" on Deloitte, which developed the $63 million site that has had technical glitches resulting in delay of benefit payments to Florida's unemployed.
“DEO will continue to work nonstop to help claimants and I will not rest until our contractor, Deloitte Consulting, has delivered the system Floridians were promised," Panuccio said.
Since the launch on Oct. 15, more than 833,000 total claims have been filed using the website called Connect, and more than $237 million has been paid to claimants, DEO said.
But the numerous technical glitches with the site and the inability to reach the agency on the phone has left many unemployed Floridians who qualify for benefits frustrated and without any income to pay rent or bills.
