Wednesday: A mix of sun and storms

Sun Sentinel

Expect a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

Wednesday's forecast calls for a 30 to 40 percent chance of showers or storms. Highs in the low 90s with heat index readings - or feels-like temperatures - of about 100 degrees. Lows in the mid 70s.

Thursday's forecast is similar.

Tropics: At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Tropical Storm Bret was 255 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., moving northeast at 9 mph with sustained winds of 50 mph. Forecasters expect it to dissipate within the next three days without threatening land.

The National Hurricane Center also is tracking a low-pressure area about 550 miles east of Bermuda, giving it a 90 percent chance of developing into a depression or storm within the next two days, according to the 2 p.m. tropical outlook Wednesday.

That system, too, poses no threat to land as it is moving quickly northeast toward cooler waters. The next named storm will be Cindy.
