Deputies arrested Stephen Craig Miller, 61, on the first day of school after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut, after he went showed up drunk at two schools in Port Charlotte asking if he could bring a gun on school property to protect his grandchildren, according to a news release from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
Miller left both the elementary and middle schools when told he could not come on campus drunk and he certainly could not bring a gun on school property, the release stated.
Miller reportedly admitted to having been drinking. He and his vehicle were searched and nothing was found -- except an unopened can of beer on the front passenger seat of his car.
