Shameless plug alert: I'll be appearing on This Week in South Florida with hosts Michael Putney and Glenna Milberg again this Sunday. The weekly public affairs show airs at 11:30 a.m. on WPLG-Ch. 10, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale ABC affiliate.
The show has recently expanded to an hour, and I'll be taking part in the roundtable segment for a second straight week (I guess they liked me). Topics this week include Charlie Crist's potential trip to Cuba, the latest on David Beckham's Miami soccer efforts and Broward schools' $800 million bond referendum.

One news bit to share before the weekend. Remember the recent column I wrote on Gregg Newell, a pioneer of Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale, and how he should be honored on the city's Walk of Fame along the beach? I'm pleased to report the selection committee met this week and agreed to honor Newell, who died 11 years ago, at the city's upcoming annual Great American Beach Party.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 24 at 6:15 p.m.
Whether you liked Spring Break or not, it was significant in the region's development and Newell, who co-owned and ran the Button lounge/nightclub, played a big part.
Happy Mother's Day weekend!
