Makeup Artist Melanie Mills gets a 10 for her incredible cosmetic transformations on “Dancing With The Stars.” The Emmy Award-winning makeup artist lent her makeup magic to 11 seasons of the hit ABC competitive dance show. And while she’s moved on from the show to do makeup for Nickelodeon’s “Sam and Cat,” the Gleam beauty brand she created while working on “Dancing With The Stars” is still a hit on set. “Elizabeth Berkley is a fan of the Gleam products and she’s been using it this season,” Mills said of the former Saved By The Bell Star who is currently competing on the show.
Gleam By Melanie Mills is a line of Body Radiance cream, powder and lip-gloss that’s designed to make you glow like a superstar. “A lot of self tanner is used on the set of ‘Dancing With The Stars,’” Mills added. “On show days, the dancers and celebrity contestants always wanted the tanner even darker. I needed to create body makeup that didn’t stain the clothes or couldn’t be washed out so I came up with Gleam Body Radiance, which comes in four shades and really goes on like liquid gold. When celebrities started driving to my house to get the product, I knew we had something here.”
Singer Brandy Norwood, who competed on the eleventh season of the show, worked with Mills to create the darkest shade of Gleam Body Radiance. Legendary soul singer Gladys Knight also became a loyal fan of the line after using it on season 14 of “Dancing With The Stars.”
“There’s not many body makeup products on the market for darker skin tones,” Mills added. “What’s great about Gleam is that all four shades can used on every skin tone to get different effects.”
The Radiant Dust in Mills line is also available in four shades and can dusted all over skin for a glamorous shimmer. “This product is really built for Miami,” Mills said. “It smells good and goes on nicely over the Gleam. I like to wear it when I’m at the beach. You can also dust it on your legs to cover small scars or veins.”
Mills also just released a book, Glitter & Glam, to share makeup tips and celebrate how to bring out your inner sparkle. “I was always a huge fan of Kevyn Aucoin and his books and felt there was a need for a new book to have fun with makeup,” Mills mentioned. “My philosophy is that makeup is an accessory. You have to play with it and have fun.”
In the book, Mills wanted to feature as many looks and age ranges as possible so she features famous faces such as Norwood, 34 and 20-year-old singing sensation Ariana Grande. “I’m so proud of this book and it took almost four years to complete it,” Mills added. “I got to create looks for Jennette McCurdy, Jennifer Grey, Audrina Patridge, Willa Ford, Anna Trebunskaya and many others.”
Some of the highlights of the book include making over Grande as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and transforming Norwood into an Egyptian queen and Josephine Baker. While the moisturizing Gleam Body Radiance and Radiant Dust are flying off store shelves, Mills’ Lip Radiance glosses are quickly becoming an industry favorite. Available in seven highly pigmented shades, this gloss goes on smooth, lasts and doesn’t feel sticky on the lips. “This product is really like if lipstick an lip-gloss had a baby!” Mills exclaimed. “I’m big on my products hydrating, looking good and feeling good when you put it on.”
With the holidays just around the corner, Mills advises to let it glow. “Bordeaux lips are really in now and will be perfect for the holidays,” Mills said. “The holidays are all about sparkle and fun with beautiful, clean brows and long, lush lashes. Put a pop of gold dust on your eyelids. Everyone should glow for the holidays.”
