New bans on synthetic drugs (HB 1175)

So, bath salts and fake pot are off limits?: Not necessarily. Law enforcement has found that chemists are typically a few steps ahead, altering the compounds to get around new restrictions on the powerful and highly hallucinogenic synthetic drugs. These drugs are largely thought to be what caused a South Florida man to gnaw off half the face of a homeless man in Miami. Though, a full toxicology report has not come back to confirm that. "Synthetic drugs, such as bath salts, cause horrific effects, including psychotic episodes, hallucinations and seizures," said Attorney General Pam Bondi, whose office pushed for the legislation. "We will continue to do whatever it takes to keep dangerous synthetic drugs off of Florida's store shelves and out of our communities." Mark Randall, Sun Sentinel
