“So we beat on boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
-“The Great Gatsby,” F. Scott Fitzgerald
In an era when people go out to Chipotle in their pajama pants, board airplanes in stained sweat suits and shop for groceries in bedroom slippers, it’s a refreshing twist to see Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire parading on the big screen in distinguished suits and Carey Mulligan donning glamorous beaded dresses, dainty scarves as headbands and dazzling vintage jewelry.
I have not been this excited or inspired about a film’s costumes since well...the last time Baz Luhrmann made a movie. While Miuccia Prada provided more than 40 looks for the film and Tiffany and Co. designed the beautiful and very expensive bling featured in the film, you can still get “The Great Gatsby” look, old sport, even on a budget. So let’s turn back time to these classy styles that are available online and some are even right here in Boca Raton.
Great Gatsby clutch from Kate Spade; $265 at Katespade.com. Leave it to Kate Spade to develop a whimsical way to show your love for a treasured tome. Spade’s The Great Gatsby clutch is a the perfect pop of yellow and pop culture.
Benefit Cosmetics new vintage-inspired line; $16-$20; Benefitcosmetics.com and available at Benefit counter in Macy’s in Town Center at Boca Raton and Sephora.

However, the makeup line has reinvented itself with its newest line of deco-inspired glosses and eye shadows. You’ll want every color and Gatsby would approve of such decadence, darling!
The Gatsby Collection; $60-$848 at Brooksbrothers.com.
This clever line looks identical to many of the costumes designed by Catherine Martin for Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby.” You can be an “old sport” and look just like Leonardo DiCaprio did in the film with this line of linen suits, spectator loafers and accessories such as cufflinks, bow ties and walking sticks.
Gold Embellished Gatsby Blogger Necklace; $52 at Threadflip.com. An essential part of the opulence of “The Great Gatsby” is the jewels. Snag character Daisy Buchanan’s carefree diva style with this affordable, yet striking necklace.
Tocca Liliana perfume; $68 at Tocca.com. Jay Gatsby was famous for his over-the-top pool parties, endless supply of booze and optimism, and meticulously manicured garden. This intoxicating mixture of Italian Bergamot, Neroli, Watery Peach, Gardenia, Sandalwood and Patchouli is as fresh and mysterious as Gatsby himself. This scent was inspired by the roarin’ ‘20s and “The Great Gatsby” film.
