t’s OK to stomp your foot:It’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend, so many casinos are getting their Irish up. Mardi GrasCasino, for example, is bringing in fiddler Richard Wood and singer Gordon Belsher from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday as featured attractions in their attempt to go green.
Mardi Gras (831 N. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-924-3200, PlayMardiGras.com) also is offering a celebration for winners and a consolation for losers in the form of a $21.95 Irish buffet. They’ll find corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, braised chicken, boiled red skin potatoes and a dessert station.
Of course, the casino promotions have a St. Paddy’s theme, calling one of them Pots of Gold. Drawings for $500 to $1,000 will take place at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. O’Shea’s Virtual Scratch and Win will be offered from 9 a.m. to midnight Thursday, but I don’t think anyone named O’Shea will be around. Regardless, players who earn 30 points at any machine and swipe at any kiosk to play for more than $80,000 in cash and bonus play.
More St. Pat’s: A couple of miles to the south, Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino (901 S. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-454-7000, GulfstreamPark.com) stages its “Party at the Park,” Saturday which includes Irish food and a $1,000 bar tab giveaway. There’s also a free concert in Gulfstream’s walking ring, plus live horse-racing. Inside the casino is a Play Your Way to $100K promotion, each Friday, Saturday and Sunday this month.
More leprechaun references: Calder (21001 N.W. 27th Ave., Miami Gardens, 305-625-1311, CalderRaceCourse.com) continues its $50,000 Over the Rainbow Giveaway, doling out $10,000 in free play each Saturday. Player’s Club members get one entry, and earn another drawing entry for every 20 points earned. The drawings are from 8 to 10 p.m.
Parade of the Yankees: Meanwhile, this was bound to happen, as soon as word came out about NYY Steak, the new upscale steakhouse in Seminole Casino Coconut Creek -- former Yankees coming out for meet-and-greets. Well, at least the first one is a good one: Hall of Fame slugger Reggie Jackson is available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. NYY Steak is open from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Monday. Visit NYYsteak.com or call 954-935-6699.
