Diabetics can get generic immediate-release metformin, up to a 30-day supply or 90 tablets, and up to 60 tablets of free lisinopril, used to treat high-blood pressure. Also offered are six free generic antibiotics, including amoxicillin, penicillin and ciprofloxacin. I've even a filled a prescription for free antibiotics for my dog, Buster, the one-eyed Jack Russell terrier.
It pays BIG to shop around. I called more than eight Broward and Palm Beach County pharmacies for prices for a one-month supply of Lexapro, which is used to treat depression. Prices varied by an astounding $170 for the generic version of the drug. Costco was the cheapest, selling it for $6.99. Winn-Dixie's pharmacy was the most expensive, at $179.
