Ashley Taylor Wright is accused of throwing a three-month-old infant towards a deputy who was trying to stop her for suspected shoplifting in a parking lot at the Santa Rosa Mall in Mary Esther on Monday evening, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office news release.
The infant, who was still in her infant carrier, was not injured.
The 23-year-old Pensacola woman allegedly went into a fitting room at Dillard's with some clothes and came out without the merchandise, which wasn't left in the fitting room., according to the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said that Wright had hidden two pairs of Miss Me Jeans and a pink Hurley shirt, valued at $261, in a baby stroller.
When a deputy approached Wright near her car in the parking lot, she began to yell at her hubby to make the getaway -- with two small children also inside the car, the release stated.
As the deputy tried to get Wright out of the car, she put the baby carrier in front of her saying “You will have to shoot through the baby to get me,” according to the Sheriff's Office.
Wright then ran from the car, then threw the 14-pound infant, still in the carrier, towards the deputy, the release stated.
Wright fell and struggled with the deputy as he tried to take her into custody.
She is charged with Petty Theft, Child Abuse without Great Bodily Harm, and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
Sadly, she's not the only one who uses a child as a safety shield.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
