Matthew James Lash was busted on Friday after deputies said the 22-year-old Lakeland man vandalized a deputy’s patrol car twice and also vandalized his personal vehicle, stealing items from each car, according to a Polk County Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit.
Lash reportedly threw concrete blocks and landscaping rocks at the patrol car early Tuesday morning and stole a rechargeable Maglite flashlight from the patrol car. Lash also broke out the windows of the deputy’s personally owned pickup truck, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Lash also left a note on the deputy sheriff’s front door that read “The Joker is here! Jokes on you, Bi***. ******!”, according to the arrest affidavit.
But early Friday morning the 'Joker' ran out of moves.
A man living in the same neighborhood reported that someone was trying to open the sliding glass door into his bedroom. As the man started to investigate, the prowler, later determined to be Lash, threw a landscape rock through the man's Florida room sliding glass door, causing $3,000 worth of damage, the report stated.
The home's residents then heard loud noises coming from the area of Lash’s home and also noticed that the deputy’s driver’s side window had been broken out -- a second time.
Responding deputies stated they found Lash out in the street holding a BB-gun rifle and acting erratically.
After lawmen ordered Lash back to his home, Lash later reappeared -- this time with a box cutter -- and was then taken into custody, according to deputies.
During an interview with Lash, deputies said Lash 'fessed up to the vandalism and burglaries, claiming that he was drinking, got angry, and that he holds no ill will towards the deputy.
Lash is charged with 2 Counts of Burglary, 2 Counts of Criminal Mischief (over $1,000 damage), 2 Counts of Petit Theft, Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling, Firing a Weapon into a Structure (BB-gun); Improper Exhibition of a Weapo, Carrying a Aoncealed Weapon; 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, Tampering with Evidence and Burglary Conveyance.More FloriDUH
