George Romney, Mitt's dad, was born to American citizens living in a Mormon church colony in Chihuahua, Mexico. He was given U.S. citizenship at birth. So, why is he in this gallery? Mitt Romney mentioned the fact that his father was born in Mexico during a presidential debate. According to the 30th article of the Mexican constitution, there are two ways in which a person can acquire the Mexican nationality, by birth and by naturalization. The Mexican constitution declares that individuals born in Mexican territory, regardless of the nationality of their parents are Mexican.
