What's inside: Ever wonder what it would look like if the board game Candy Land came to life? Jimmie's comes close. Gold papier-mâché cherubs. Parisian-imported, foil-lined red gift boxes. White-and-pink striped canopies. The 600-square-foot shop is filled with shelves and glass cases displaying a tempting array of treats. Jimmie's sets out about 100 varieties daily, including fudge squares, truffles, nonpareils, peanut butter cups, caramel turtles and nut-filled barks. Background: Jimmie's calls itself " Florida's Oldest Chocolatier," having been established by Jimmie Vonglis in 1947. Rodney Harrison and Ken Smith, who used to buy sweets at the store as young boys, took over in the late 1990s. Editor's picks: Six-piece assortment in a traditional red-and-gold Jimmie's box ($9.95); calla lily and tulip lollipops ($2.95 each); a 6-inch-tall replica of Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa from Jimmie's new international collection ($19.95); a 13-pound solid chocolate bear ($299). By the pound: Check out the Top Hats (chocolate-covered marshmallows on pecan turtles); Tortoises (a super-sized cousin of the turtle); and truffles infused with 24 flavors such as espresso and coconut. Sugar or no-sugar-added pieces cost $34.95 a pound. Nine varieties of fudge, such as maple walnut and Key lime cheesecake, can be mixed or matched for $21.95 a pound. About Jimmie's: Everything's handmade and preservative-free, general manager Robert Granado said. "We have everything from the exotic to the erotic and in between." Pair up the sweets with a bottle of boutique wine or champagne. Or savor a few pieces as dessert after a meal at the garden cafe, which opened in 2005 on the elegantly landscaped grounds. High-tech meets fantasy: Not all the goodies are bite-sized. Jimmie's has works of edible art, with molded sculptures in shapes ranging from seashells to a horse-drawn, Cinderella-esque coach. Jimmie's goes high-tech too, with tasty cell phones and computers. Two is better: The Dania Beach shop is the original, but there's a second Jimmie's Chocolates at 1426 NE 26th St., Wilton Manors; 954-563-8655. It relocated earlier this year from Pompano Beach. - Beth Feinstein-Bartl INFORMATIONAL BOX: Jimmie's Chocolates and Café Address: 148 N.
