Perhaps County Commissioner Stacy Ritter never heard of Dale Carnegie, the famous self-help author, whose books included the huge best seller “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”
U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Lois Frankel toured the massive Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport runway construction project on Monday and proclaimed themselves pleased at what they saw.
On Tuesday, County Commissioner Stacy Ritter went after members of Congress who show up for photo ops but never really do anything for the county.
Ritter was unhappy about the federal budget cuts known as sequester, which mean an end to federal air traffic control operations at the county-owned North Perry Airport on Sunday.
The county is picking up the cost through Sept. 30. On Monday, Broward Mayor Kristin Jacobs estimated that would cost $43,000 a month.
An aide to U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, a Miami Democrat who represents part of South Broward, told commissioners that her boss had written a letter on the issue.
Here’s what Ritter said at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting about members of Congress:
“They come here and they have their photo opportunities at our airport and they shake hands with the mayors and the cities of the districts they represent … and they come here and tell us how wonderful … and then they write a letter. Wow. I'm so impressed. I can't tell you. Really.
“I'm just shocked the same members of Congress whose names came up all the time about how supportive they are for Broward County aren't getting anything done for Broward County.”Copyright © 2015, CT Now
