Colored beach

Robert Chunn remembers the segregation in South Florida that caused blacks to be ferried to a remote section of John U. Lloyd park back in the 1950s that was known as the Negro Beach. Now that Chunn is a Dania Beach City Commissioner he is trying to get the section of John U. Lloyd State Park dubbed a historic site so people won't forget its history. Here, he stops to talk to Andrea Boucher of Davie to prove a point. "Back in the day -- one, she wouldn't have been out here, because it was the 'black beach' and two, even if she was out here I wouldn't have been able to go talk to her because I would have been lynched or beaten up or something," said Chunn.
