First black female CPA Mary Washington Wylie, July 2 Mary Washington Wylie, the nation's first black female certified public accountant, died on Saturday, July 2, 2005. She was 99. Washington Wylie was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and moved to Chicago as a child. She graduated in 1941 with a business degree from Northwestern University.
