The Rev. Harold Ridley, S.J., president of Loyola College in Maryland died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at his home, Armiger House, on Loyola College's campus in Baltimore. He was 65. Father Ridley attended Fordham University, Woodstock College and the Union Theological Seminary, and earned a Ph.D in English literature at New York University. He joined the Jesuits in 1956 and was ordained in 1969. For more than 20 years, he taught English at LeMoyne College, a Jesuit institution in Syracuse, N.Y. He became Loyola's 23rd president in 1994. Under his leadership, applications to the college's undergraduate programs more than doubled to 3,400 students. He also oversaw a record-breaking capital campaign.
