The winner of the $10 million guarantee poker tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino next month will get a life-changing paycheck of about $1.5 million. But even for those players who bust out after a couple of days of hard work, the rewards are decent, and plentiful.
Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open officials announced that 15 percent of the field will win some form of cash — tournaments usually pay only the top 10 percent — and the minimum payout will be $7,500. They also announced that Matt Savage, widely considered the best poker-tournament coordinator in the world, will be flying in to work the main event.
The $10 million guarantee event, the world’s largest guarantee, will run Aug. 22-29, as part of a series of 33 events.
“The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open is so unique that it demands a unique pay structure,” says Savage, tournament director for World Poker Tour events. “Paying 15 percent of the field gives the first-time player confidence to try another, bigger buy-in in the future.”
Buy-in for the main event is $5,300, but players who don’t want to lay out that much cash can enter a satellite tournament at one of the five Seminole card rooms in Florida, and take a chance at winning tournament entry that way.
