Long before Mariah Carey, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez — all self-made divas in their own right — there was only one showstopper: Motown great Diana Ross.
Times has surely changed since her days with the Supremes, but at 69, Ross still can draw a crowd. Her recent performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles sold out, but there are still tickets left to Wednesday's show at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in our Hollywood.
Critics have praised Ross' recent singing, even if they say it's on the "rusty" side. Still, it's hard to imagine a world without Motown, and legends such as Ross, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, the Jackson 5, Billy Holiday and Etta James. Images of those greats will be projected onto a screen behind Ross during her show.
In true style, expect Ross to dress accordingly, which means glitz and maybe even a few costume changes. A recent concert review from the Los Angeles Times dubbed the mom of five and grandma of two "glamorous and beautiful," saying her voice "though no longer able to hit glorious high notes, remains remarkably supple."
Of course, her two-hour performance won't come straight from the Supremes catalog. But surely, the night's show will take many of her fans on a journey back to a time when Auto-Tune, plastic pop and lip-synching didn't exist.
Diana Ross will perform 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hard Rock Live, 1 Seminole Way, in Hollywood. Tickets cost $50-$105. Call 954-797-5531 or go to HardRockLiveHollywoodFL.com.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
