Nobody expects you to unhinge your jaw, stretch your gut and scarf down 69 frankfurters like Joey Chestnut (probably) did on July 4 at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island.
But take note, dog-chowing competitors with stomachs of steel: There will be at least three opportunities to do so during Burger Beast blogger Sef Gonzalez's returning Hot Dog Fest, first stopping by Tobacco Road on Saturday in Miami with more than 20 food trucks and local vendors (confirmed so far), each slinging creatively topped 'furters both artisanal and ethnic.
The 2-7:30 p.m. celebration of the all-American comfort food will begin with the aforementioned hot-dog-eating contest, and later feature tasting samples from Churro Mania, Jefe's, Kona Dog and Monster Burgers. Two more contests will take place when the Hot Dog Fest sets its buns down at the Abacoa Town Center (1200 University Blvd.) in Jupiter on July 21 and Plantation Heritage Park (1100 S. Fig Tree Lane) on July 28.
Admission is free, but prospective contestants must submit a request to enter at TheHotDogFest.com. 305-374-1198 or Tobacco-Road.com.
