A man whose tumultuous life has involved divorced parents, homelessness, crack and alcoholism may not seem the ideal person to pen a self-help book.
But this is why prolific memoirist Augusten Burroughs is the right guy for the job, and why his new book, "This Is How" (out Wednesday in paperback), is worth reading by anyone confronted by the problems listed in his marathon of a subtitle: "Proven Aid in Overcoming Shyness, Molestation, Fatness, Spinsterhood, Grief, Disease, Lushery, Decrepitude and More. For Young and Old Alike."
Burroughs will appear 8 p.m. Monday at Books and Books (265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables). 305-442-4408 or BooksAndBooks.com.
