Philadelphia has seen a rise in its annual homicide totals since 2009, when it recorded 302 homicides, according to statistics posted on phillypolice.com. The city saw 331 homicides in 2012, the same number as in 2008. The 2012 toll was a 2 percent increase from 2011. This year has seen a change: Philadelphia homicides are down 38 percent in the first three months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012.
