North Lawndale saw three homicides in two days this last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Monday, a woman was found shot to death in the 1500 block of South Sawyer Avenue, police said. The same day, a 19-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1500 block of South Spaulding Avenue, officials said. On Saturday, a 17-year-old boy was shot to death in the 1600 block of South Millard Avenue, police said.
North Lawndale has recorded 12 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community area logged 14 homicides last year.
Meanwhile, Woodlawn recorded a double homicide on Friday. A 48-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man were shot to death in the 6500 block of South Kenwood Avenue, police said.
Woodlawn has logged 12 homicides so far this year, according to RedEye data. The South Side community area recorded 13 homicides last year.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Chatham, Grand Boulevard, the Near West Side, New City, Roseland, South Lawndale, South Shore and Uptown, according to police information.
This past weekend, Chicago passed 200 homicides for the year. As of Wednesday afternoon, 207 homicides have been recorded so far this year, a 48 percent jump compared to 140 homicides the same period in 2011, according to RedEye data.
