Greater Grand Crossing and the Lower West Side each recorded two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In Greater Grand Crossing, a 30-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 7000 block of South Perry Avenue, police said. Four days earlier, a 47-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 7800 block of South Greenwood Avenue, officials said.
Greater Grand Crossing has recorded seven homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The South Side community area logged 24 homicides last year.
On the Lower West Side, two men, ages 26 and 27, were shot to death Monday in the 2200 block of South Leavitt Street, police said.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Ashburn, Auburn Gresham, Austin, Brighton Park, Morgan Park, Roseland and South Chicago, RedEye data shows.
Thirty-five homicides have been recorded so far this month. Thirty-nine homicides were logged in May 2011, according to RedEye data.
