Englewood sees 2 homicides in last week


Englewood has seen two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

On Tuesday, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in the 7000 block of South Parnell Avenue, police said. Five days earlier, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5700 block of South Emerald Avenue, officals said.

The community area has seen 12 homicides this year, including five this month, RedEye data shows. Fourteen homicides were recorded in Englewood last year, RedEye determined.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Ashburn, Burnside, Greater Grand Crossing, Humboldt Park, Kenwood, South Chicago, Washington Heights, Washington Park and West Englewood, according to officials.

The victims--eight men and one woman--were between the ages of 19 and 37, RedEye data shows.

Thirty-three homicides have been logged so far this month. Police recorded 42 homicides in July last year, RedEye found.
