Vince Labriola, 26, Wrigleyville
JERSEY: Stan Mikita, No. 21 (1958-80)
I always had VHS tapes of the Hawks, and I always used to watch those, and [Mikita] was one of the best. It's kind of a bummer that I never got to see him in person, but when I bought a jersey, I figured I would get somebody who I knew would always be associated with the team.
My other jersey is a Toews jersey, so I figured I would get one of each. And, I don't know—of all the guys whose numbers are retired, I just remember watching his highlights the most and just being like, "That guy is really badass great." [Laughs.]
Did you consider anybody else who was old school?
I like Keith Magnuson too. He was a fighter, which was always fun when you were a little kid. He was instrumental in setting up their alumni network, which I thought was a very cool thing to do, to keep all the old players in touch. And like I said, mainly it was just from those old tapes and watching the old players, and out of all of them I just liked Stan Mikita. I thought he played the game the right way, and he's like a Polish guy, and my family is Polish-Lithuanian, so that's good.
You said you have a Toews jersey also. Any others?
No, not right now. When I was little I had a Jeremy Roenick jersey. But that's it.
So why this one tonight?
This is the jersey I wear every night. My Toews jersey is the actual Winter Classic jersey, so I wore it when I went to the Winter Classic, but I don't like wearing it anymore, because it's way too nice and expensive, and if spill beer on it, that would be it.
