The Southington YMCA held its 7th annual Polar Bear Plunge Saturday afternoon at Camp Sloper, raising over $20,000 in scholarships for children in need to go to camp. More than 50 participants braved the flurries of snow and frigid waters, taking the plunge fittingly in the middle of Connecticut's first snow storm of 2012. "It never ceases to amaze me how many people come out and participate," said Mark Pooler, the director of Camp Sloper, "it's a great event for a great cause."
