WESTMINSTER — The Carroll County Human Relations Commission will hold a 20th anniversary celebration reception honoring Chairwoman Virginia Harrison, of Sykesville, on Tuesday, May 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carroll County Non-Profit Center in Westminster.
The reception is open to all.
Harrison is also a member of the Board of Education of Carroll County. She was appointed to the board in 2008 by Gov. Martin O'Malley to fill a vacancy for a partial term, then she won a full-term in the 2010 election.
She was named Carroll County's 2005 Most Beautiful Person for her work with the Human Relations Commission, Carroll Citizens for Racial Equality, the Department of Social Services, United Way, and other organizations.
Other accolades include the Man of the Year award by The Eldersburg Eagle in 2005, the Eleanor Hood Gross Award by the YWCA in 2001, and the Nancy S. Grasmick Excellence in Minority Achievement award in 1999.
The Carroll County Human Relations Commission promotes harmony and understanding, and inclusion in civic, economic, political, housing, recreational and other human rights. The volunteer commission meets monthly with members serving on committees, receiving complaints, conducting investigations, and seeking resolutions.
