On Monday, May 6, the Harford Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) held its fourth annual Food Fight, bringing together four chefs from around the region to compete in a cooking competition - one wherein each chef prepared, in one hour's time, an appetizer and entree from a basket of secret ingredients.
For the first time, the event took place at the Vandiver Inn in Havre de Grace, where Susan, the inn's chef, offered her own version of the secret ingredients for viewers to purchase and enjoy. Competing chefs were Chef Travis Szerensits and sous chef Brian Hancocks from Manor Tavern, Chef Robert Armigeer and sous-chef Rebecca Szesczyk from Mountain Branch, Chef Jason Croasdale and sous chef Cathy Simpson from Bruce Bitners, and Chef Duane Smith and sous chef Thomas Bernatazits from Duclaw Brewery. The winner was Chef Travis from Manor Tavern.
Special thanks to Mars for their generous contribution of a $25 gift certificate for each of the chefs and for money to purchase ingredients for the pantry. Also, thanks to Bel Air Liquors, Brad's Produce, Harman's Farm Market and Woolsey Farm, for their donations to the secret ingredient basket and/or pantry.
And finally, thanks to our sponsors, who donated money or services to help make this event successful: Wegmans, Harford County Public Schools, Harford Community College, McShane's Gourmet Coffee, Food, & Gifts, Rita's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Coffee Coffee, Les Petits Bisous!, Sunny Day Café, Panera, Sweet Devotion and Giovanni's Restaurant; to those who contributed to the Food Fight raffle basket contents; and to our judges and members.
