H2O, a field hockey club based in Harford County, had impressive showings recently at a couple of prestigious events.
The Under 12 Pink Team won the club's first title at the WC Eagles Training Center in Pennsylvania. WC Eagles, the number one ranked club in the country, holds regular tournaments with the host club winning the majority of the time.
On Sunday however, the Debbie Limpert coached team, which included players Sam Aljets, Georgia Beachley, Sydney Beck, Rachel Borzymowski, Helen Butler, Pyper Friedman, Kelsie Gillis, Lauren Golczewski, Annie Keele and Ariel Limpert took home the gold medal.
While the U12 team was winning, another H2O team was making noise of its own in Florida. The four-day Disney College Showcase was held and a team comprised of H2O players competed in the U19 division. Although the team was young, with two thirds of the roster playing up an age group, H2O posted a 4-1-1 mark.
In their initial pool, H2O was undefeated with wins over teams from Kentucky, Maryland and powerhouse club Spirit of USA out of New Jersey. Based on that success, H2O was placed in the top bracket for the remainder of play.
In the second round, H2O recorded a 1-0 win over another New Jersey team, Spirit Eagles and tied Pennsylvania's East Stroudsburg, 2-2.
They finished a goal shy of advancing to the final championship round. This marked the second year in a row an H2O team went undefeated in pool play and moved into the most competitive pool, known as the Mickey pool.
This year's team was coached by Janice Rhodes and Jen DeLuca and included the following players: Madie Adams, Olivia Beachley, Matilda Butler, Mariel Castronova, Cassidy Coates, Sarah Davis, Jenny Eckert, Linnea Gonzales, Maddie Hedrick, Emily Jachelski, Jillian Jachelski, Gabby Karr, Lindsay Kraus, Sabrina Rhodes, Sydney Rhodes, Emily Stancliff and Ginger Williams.
