Deputies: Documented gang member in deadly Deltona brawl turned himself in

The 19-year-old gang member wanted in a stabbing death at a Deltona home last weekend turned himself over to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office early Tuesday.

Deputies say Christian Rodriguez is one of at least 12 people who started a deadly brawl about 4 a.m. Saturday at a house party on Foxboro Circle.

A warrant was issued for his arrest Monday morning, according to Sheriff's Office spokesman Gary Davidson.

Rodriguez turned himself in to the Volusia County Branch Jail at 12:38 a.m. The sheriff's office has declined to identify the street gang of which he is member.

State records show this was his first arrest as an adult after five arrests as a juvenile. At age 15, Rodriguez pleaded no contest to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. At 16, he was charged with assault on a school board employee. At 17, he was charged with burglary and battery on law enforcement officers. Florida Department of Law Enforcement records were not available Monday.

He now faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Ruben Puello, 21, died at Fish Memorial Hospital from a stab wound in the torso after the fight.

Two other party guests suffered a broken leg and shoulder injury during the fight., or 407-420-5620 or 407-420-5257
