Orlando Evans duo WR Tony Stevens and LB Ro'derrick Hoskins commit to Seminoles

Three Orlando Evans players attended Florida State junior day and two of them came home as commitments to the Seminoles' Class of 2013.

WR Tony Stevens and LB Ro'derrick Hoskins each pledged to the Seminoles during Saurday's Florida State junior day in Tallahassee, while Trojan teammate Dominic Walker held his patience.

"Yeah, I felt like I wanted to commit, but at the same time I wasn’t sure," Hoskins said while traveling back from the state capital with his teammates, being chauffeured by Hoskins' mother Sherita Humber. "I haven’t talked to my family and it's still too early. ... I'm still not sure. I'm still happy for them though."

The other two were sure.

"Felt like I was at home. The coaches treated us good ... just everything," Hoskins said. "The school was nice and that’s pretty much it."

Hoskins will play linebacker at FSU, but head coach Jimbo Fisher did ask the former receiver if he wanted to play both ways.

"I told him I just wanted to play defense."

Stevens (6-2, 175) is all receiver and Fisher even told him he has the best chance to become FSU's first ever Fred Biletnikoff Award winner, for the best receiver in college football, although it will take a while for Stevens to figure out how to pronounce the former Seminole receiver's name.

"He said I had a good chance to win that," Stevens laughed, giving up on failed attempts to say Biletnikoff. "It feels good. I didn’t think I would commit this early but everything turned out … I mean Florida State just had that feeling like I was at home; like I was standing next to coaches at my own school."

"It's just a great day for Evans High School," said Coach Chip Gierke, who guided the Trojans to a 9-2 record last season in his first year of taking over a team that had gone 1-9 the previous year. "And that ain't all coaching either. These kids have a lot of talent and it says a lot about Tony and Ro'derrick and Dominic, all of them ... and the seniors we had last year. They all are very good kids very hard workers."

Florida State got two other commits Saturday. Jacksonville First Coast safety Tyrell Lyons committed for 2013 according to, while the website also said his cousin defensive end De'Asian Richardson of Orange Park committed, but then backed off his decision later because he had not talked with his family.

The other commitment for the Seminoles came from Auburndale rising sophomore ATH Derwin James (6-3, 186), who plays safety, wide receiver, running back and Wildcat quarterback. He is the cousin of former Miami Hurricane and NFL star Edgerrin James and current UM running back Mike James.
