A man likely will strip down and bare most of it all by the end of "Truth or Dare with Pepe."
If that surprises or shocks you, then you don't know Pepe, the red-mohawked, gay host of "Truth or Dare," whose stereotypical Latin accent is thicker than a bowl of black beans and rice.
A Fringe favorite for years, Pepe (played by Rob Ward) returns to the stage with his flamboyant and wildly inappropriate ways, mixing the talk-show format of E!'s "Chelsea Lately" with a late-night, alcohol-fueled party. Did we mention the price of admission includes a Jell-o shot?
After a fabulous, almost rock star-like entrance and a bit of crowd roasting, Pepe dives into the show by introducing his "celebrity" guests for the evening, which on Saturday included other Fringe performers and the owner of The Venue, Blue Star.
Pepe's job as emcee is keep the guests talking and the jokes flying. He tries by getting them to comment on news events from pop culture, from Jay-Z's recent scrap with sister-in-law Solange to Ben Affleck as Batman.
The unscripted banter teeters on OMG with each guest seemingly trying to one-up the other. At times it's witty and spontaneous and "Did he really just say that?" funny; other times the attempts at humor are just that: attempts.
For some of the jabs, it may help to know a bit of background on the Fringe Festival or Orlando's gay community. Several digs were almost like inside jokes: laugh-out-loud to some, but over-the-heads of others.
Because of the unpredictability of Pepe and his guests, no two shows will be alike, so who knows how the remaining performances will turn out?
The partylike atmosphere, however, will probably be a constant. And so will Pepe's parting demand to the fans that seem to adore him: "Let's get drunk, bitches."
