In the week's highlights, BBC America has a big Saturday planned: a new Doctor Who and a new series.
“Doctor Who” begins another season at 8 p.m. Saturday, when veteran actor Peter Capaldi takes on the iconic role. The episode called “Deep Breath” plops the Doctor and companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) in Victorian England.
To celebrate the return, Chris Hardwick will host a pre-show at 7:30 p.m. and an after-show discussion at 11 p.m.
BBC America will use “Who” to help launch “Intruders” at 10 p.m. Saturday. Glen Morgan of “The X-Files” developed this eerie, conspiracy-driven series, based on Michael Marshall Smith’s novel. The Morgan imprint bodes well for the series.
Relatives are shocked when loved ones start acting strangely and vanish. A husband (John Simm) frets over his wife (Mira Sorvino). Parents worry about their 10-year-old daughter (Millie Brown). A mysterious agent (James Frain) acts brutally.
Immortality is the issue, and a variation on body-snatching drives the action. Creepy quality awaits.
