Magic's Glen Davis says he needs to step up his game

After two preseason exhibitions, Glen Davis leads the Orlando Magic in scoring and ranks second on the team in rebounding.

But Davis isn’t happy with how he’s playing — at least not yet.

“I don’t feel like I’m where I need to be,” he said.

“In order to help this team make the playoffs, I need to play with more intensity. I need to finish shots. I need to be a complete player, not only on offense but defense, and I didn’t do that [against Philadelphia on Thursday]. I’ve got to go back to the drawing board and work extremely hard.”

Davis has appeared winded at times this month in practices and in exhibition games, but coach Jacque Vaughn has said he hasn’t received any disconcerting information about Davis’ weight.

Davis is averaging 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in about 23 minutes per game this preseason.

He’s been especially effective in drawing fouls and on converting his free throws. He’s made 15 of his 17 foul shots so far.

Davis likely will begin the season as the team’s starting power forward.
