The Orlando Magic’s selection of shooting guard Victor Oladipo has led many fans to assume that it’s a foregone conclusion that veteran shooting guard Arron Afflalo will be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for point guard Eric Bledsoe.
But that’s not necessarily the case, especially because several teams — the Detroit Pistons, New Orleans Pelicans and Toronto Raptors among them — are said to have an interest in Bledsoe.
Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan was asked a short while ago where the highly publicized potential Afflalo-Bledsoe deal “stands” at the moment.
Picking up on the questioner’s phrasing, Hennigan responded, “I don’t think it’s standing right now. It might be kneeling. We may revisit it. That’s something that we’ll have to work through as we get into the summer, but as of now, there’s really nothing to say about it.”
Word about a potential Afflalo-Bledsoe deal first leaked onto ESPN.com, and that news outlet and a Los Angeles-based blog reported earlier this week that a trade between the Magic and the Clippers were communicating and could complete a deal as early as draft night.
There’s a belief in some league circles that the Clippers leaked that information to drive up Bledsoe’s trade value and ignite a bidding war between league teams.
Hennigan has said that Magic and Clippers officials haven’t communicated with each other for about three weeks.
