Barry Layne Moore, the jailed mayor of Hampton, Fla., resigned Tuesday as the North Florida city fights to keep its municipal government afloat, CNN reports.
Moore was arrested last November for allegedly selling a single 30-milligram oxycodone pill to an undercover informant. He had been in office for just over a month prior to the arrest. He pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trail.
Lawmakers have been pushing to disolve the city, which is known for its speed trap along U.S. Highway 301, saying it is too corrupt to govern itself.
Before Moore's resignation, Hampton's police chief, city clerk, water manager and one of five city council members quit.
Others are expected to follow.
