Deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office say 32-year-old Tony Wells Jr. had a live alligator in a hot tub in the backyard of his Vero Beach home.
A Florida man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he was keeping a live alligator in a hot tub outside his Vero Beach home.
So what was 32-year-old Tony Wells Jr.'s excuse? Deputies say he told them the alligator was there first.
For the past year, Wells had been letting the 3-foot-long gator, apparently the previous tenant's pet, live rent-free in a small pool of water in a run-down hot tub feeding it nothing but chicken.
As you may have guessed, Wells didn't have a permit for the reptile so he was arrested and charged with possession of an alligator without a tag, Indian River county records show.
Wells posted his $500 bond and has since been released from jail.
