Winter Park Playhouse opens 'Forever Plaid'

The Winter Park Playhouse opens its 2013-2014 Mainstage Series this Friday, Aug. 2, with the hit Off-Broadway musical, "Forever Plaid."

In the 1950s, four male singers whose lives ran out before their enthusiasm did, are miraculously revived for a chance to perform the show that never was. The soundtrack of "Forever Plaid," unsurprisingly for a show about singers, features 30 hit songs of the decade.

Michael Swickard, Kevin Kelly, Nick Rishel and Todd Allen Long play the members of the quartet. Steven Flaa is directing; Christopher Leavy is musical director. The Playhouse Trio — Leavy, Sam Forrest and Ned Wilkinson — provide live accompaniment.

As part of the theater's "Show and Save" collaboration, restaurant 310 Park South, on Park Avenue in downtown Winter Park, is offering a free appetizer or dessert when Playhouse patrons present their "Forever Plaid" ticket.

WHEN: 2 p.m. Thursdays; 7:30 p.m. Fridays; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays; additional 2 p.m. matinees on Aug. 11, 18 and 21; extra "Third Thursday" evening show at 7 p.m. Aug. 15; through Aug. 24

WHERE: Winter Park Playhouse, 711-C Orange Ave., Winter Park

TICKETS: $38; $28 matinees; $25 "Third Thursday" show; $20 for entertainment-industry professionals and students 25 and younger
