A zebra was born on the Serengeti Plain of Busch Gardens theme park in Tampa this week.
The baby, an endangered Grevy's zebra, was born to 13-year-old Brooke. It's her fifth foal and the first offspring of the father, who is called Two Step. The newborn is the ninth Grevy's to be living at Busch Gardens.
Park guests can see the zebra from the Edge of Africa, the Skyride, Serengeti Express train or during an open-bed truck tour of the plain.
The population of Grevy’s zebra is down more than 50 percent in the past 18 years, and they are the only species of zebra listed as endangered by IUCN Red list, Busch says. The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund has supported research and conservation of the Grevy’s zebra through a partnership with the Grevy’s Zebra Trust in Kenya since 2007.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
