The Singing Tower at Bok Tower Gardens will ring Friday in remembrance of the 26 Newtown, Conn., shooting victims. A single bell will be rung 26 times at 9:30 a.m., in conjunction with a moment of silence suggested by Connecticut governor Daniel Malloy.
The governor wrote a letter to all of his fellow U.S. governors, inviting all states to mark a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. in their local time zones. Malloy also asked churches and government buildings in Connecticut with the ability to ring bells to do so, once for each of the 20 students and six educators who died in last week's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Bok will use its lowest bell, known as the bourdon, for the ceremony. It will also ring for the victims at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
“The Gardens have a spiritual quality as a place of hope for the future, plus an inspiration for beauty and the good in mankind,” said David Price, president of Bok Tower Gardens. “In our own small way, we want to help with the healing process,” he said.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
