The election is Nov. 6. We all have a great opportunity to be part of the selection process. No matter who you support, please vote.
In 1986, I ran for public office as Brown County commissioner. This was a great experience and, through the years, I have paid attention to this political race.
An important element for a candidate is experience. Other elements are young and enthusiastic with fresh ideas. I plan to vote for Duane Sutton, as he is an experienced politician, Brown County commissioner, a great person and a successful businessman.
My other vote is going to Rachel Kippley. She grew up on a family farm and is now married, living on a family farm with her husband and three children. She is articulate, has worked with Janklow and the NSU Foundation.
Here is another example of experience versus youth in the father-son combination running for Senate and House. Al Novstrup, with tons of experience; and David Novstrup, a new father who is young and enthusiastic and has demonstrated he has solid ideas.
I have been privileged to know our Congressional delegation of Sen. John Thune, Sen. Tim Johnson and Rep. Kristi Noem. All three have some great character values and work hard for South Dakota. I am proud to support Congresswoman Kristi Noem.
The League of Women Voters and the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce presented a candidates' forum Sept. 22. It was informative and we had a chance to listen and meet local candidates.
My final remark is be involved, learn the issues and be sure to vote.
