Prices at the pump drop slightly in Indiana, nationwide

Drivers say the drop will help, but believe it's only a break from high fuel prices

Gas in Indianapolis averaged $3.33 for a gallon for regular unleaded this weekend, according to Triple A. Some stations on the south side of Indianapolis were almost $3.15.

"I saw gas for under $3.50 and I got excited," said Shelly Hitch as she filled up her minivan Sunday morning in Carmel.

"It's definitely going to help me financially with driving to work and everything," said Ashleigh Palmer.

Triple A attributes the gradual drop to a lower demand heading into fall, especially with a lower than expected demand over Labor Day.

Some drivers said the drop will help, but believe $3 gas is here to stay.

"We think about maybe getting a hybrid or something more economic," said Hitch.

Triple A predicts the trend in lower prices will continue for the next couple of weeks.
