My 2 1/2 year old son is a Disney addict.  From Handy Manny to Monsters Inc., he’s seen nearly every Disney movie and TV show made in the past decade.  Thanks to the magic of our DVR, Daniel can watch new episodes almost every day.  Well, we might be retiring the DVR, or at least giving it a break, thanks to a cool and fun new product ??? the Mickey Mote.

The Mickey Mote is a Mickey Mouse shaped controller that lets kids (and parents if you so choose) interact with various Disney DVD???s.  Throughout various points in the episodes, viewers will be asked a question which you can answer with the mote.  It's pretty easy to set up by aiming directly at your DVD remote and pressing corresponding keys.  I had to try about 3 times to program the first key, because was going too quickly.  Once I did that, all was well.

We tested the DVD titled Mickey's Numbers Roundup which features a total of 4 episodes.  As you watch, at various points the episodes pause and ask a question such as, “Who should Mickey surprise,  Goofy or Daisy?”  You have two choices and clicking one of them lets the show continue.   Daniel's still working on his colors, but he pressed the correct button each time and received praise for it from the program.

Overall Daniel enjoyed the game and carried the remote around with hi, except for one moment where he put it in the toy box and lost it temporarily.  He did get a bit restless during the episodes because there are gaps of several moments in between the interactive portions.  However, his love of Mickey Mouse kept him watching the show.

The remote works with tons of titles including Handy Manny, Tigger & Pooh, and several upcoming titles.  Hopefully future titles will mean more interaction.  In today's digital world, preschool children are pretty advanced, playing with iPod's, iPhones, and other video games, so adding more chances to interact would make a lot of kids and parents very happy.  The concept of DVD based interactive games isn???t new, it has been around for a long time.  However, the Mickey allure will keep them entertained and begging to play it over and over again. In fact, we're heading to Sheetrock Hills today to see Handy Manny's Big Construction Job.
