Marsh Supermarkets, Inc. is donating nearly $50,000 to local police from the neighborhoods served by Marsh stores.
The cash donation is in addition to a recognition event for police, the Marsh Great American Cookout Super Block Party, held the evening of August 2 at each of the 97 Marsh stores. The event was designed to show support for the anti-crime efforts provided by local law enforcement professionals. Marsh invited neighborhood residents to attend a Super Block Party at a Marsh store convenient to them and enjoy hot dogs, beverages and other refreshments, play games and spend the evening with their neighbors and local police officers.
Joe Kelley, chairman, CEO and president of Marsh Supermarkets, Inc. “Because of them, our communities are safer, more secure and great places to live, work and raise families. We wanted to do something to let them know their efforts to fight crime in our communities are very much appreciated.”
Each store is donating $500.00 with the total amount received by each department determined by the number of Marsh stores in each community. The Indianapolis metropolitan area has the greatest number of Marsh stores, 23 in all, meaning $11,500.00 will be donated to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
“On behalf of all the men and women of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, I would like to thank Marsh Supermarkets for their genuine and continuous police/community partnerships and their generous donations to our IMPD Community Day outreach programs,” said Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief, Paul R. Ciesielski. “The level of support and even better, the enthusiasm displayed by Marsh and all of its employees during National Night Out events was outstanding! I pledge my commitment to continue to building upon the great relationship between our officers and our friends at Marsh.”
The next largest check, for $3,500.00, will go to the Muncie, Indiana police department from its seven Marsh stores. Likewise, the police departments in Bloomington, Anderson and Lafayette will receive checks from multiple Marsh stores. Police departments in communities served by a single Marsh store will receive $500.00.
