Residents in southeastern Connecticut are cleaning up after serious flooding threatened two dams in Stonington and nearly washed out two small bridges. Water levels rose dangerously high at the Aquarion dam on Jerry Brown Road in Stonington but the big washout nearly happened at a centuries old dam just off route one...sandbags were needed to contain the stone and earthen dam and the DEP was quickly called in. The dam was ruled safe and levels receded. Property damage was minimal. Flooding also affected Mystic Aquarium as the parking lot was swamped with flood water. The owner of the property where the stone dam is constructed says he is not sure what he will do with the structure and is considering all options to make sure surrounding properties are safe.
