Thousands of kids attend mass at ND

NOTRE DAME – Tuesday was a big day for children from area Catholic schools.

The annual All Schools Mass was held at Notre Dame's Purcell Pavilion.

Thousands of children from all over the area attended the annual Mass, which recognizes the importance of worship in Catholic education.

The theme this year was "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards."

Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese began the mass with a moment of silence to honor the late Bishop Emeritus John D'Arcy, who passed away Sunday.

21 area schools attended the mass with more than 20 parish priests.
