ST. JOSEPH-- The developer of the Harbor Village project says they are currently in phase one which involves completing the hotel.
The docks for the marina are being ordered now and installing them is expected to begin in late August.
The construction timeline for the condos and cottages will depend on demand.
The Director of Real Estate for Edgewater Resources, Jason Keller, says, "There's been a pent up demand for quite a long time and with the economy slowly starting to come back is what we see, you know, people are excited about jumping on this type of investment."
He says half of the boat slips in the marina are reserved for the 2014 season.
The top two floors of the hotel will be luxury condos that range from $799,000 to $1.5 million and three of those are already spoken for.
A few people have also expressed interest in the condos and cottages despite the fact that there's not too much to see at this point.
Keller says, "And that's without really doing much marketing. we just over the 4th of July weekend started marketing to the public."
Jerry Sarno has lived in St. Joseph for years and thinks Michigan's economy is turning away from manufacturing and going toward leisure which is why he believes harbor village is a good idea.
Sarno says, "Is it going to employ everyone or is it going to solve all their problems? No. That's fundamental to something else
probably but it certainly can't hurt.
The developer says the hotel will be open by Memorial Day weekend of 2014.
Keller says the Harbor Village project is getting two grants totaling about 3 million dollars that will pay for things like a parking lot, municipal water and sewer service and walking trails.
Harbor Shores has three additional residential areas nearby that are already 50 percent sold and due to the success they plan to add a fourth.
