FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A memorial service was planned for a 9-year-old Fort Wayne girl allegedly bludgeoned and dismembered by a man whom her sick mother had entrusted with her care.
The service for Aliahna Maroney-Lemmon was scheduled for Thursday night at the First Assembly of God in Fort Wayne.
Charges of murder, abuse of a corpse and removing a dead body from the scene were read in court Wednesday against 39-year-old Michael Plumadore.
Relatives say they had considered Plumadore a trusted family friend. He had been caring for Aliahna and her 6-year-old sisters because their mother had the flu and Aliahna's stepfather worked at night and slept during the day.
The girl had been dead for more than 24 hours before she was reported missing two days before Christmas.
