ELKHART – Graduation parties, baseball tournaments and several outdoor festivals are going on this weekend, and the smoldering forecast has some organizers sweating.
Planners are scrambling to find ways to keep crowds cool with temperatures near 90 predicted.
The Elkhart Jazz Festival is getting into full swing.
This year, there’s something new at the Jazz Festival – a Mardi Gras parade.
The parade started around 5 p.m. Friday with 9 units and hundreds of people participating.
With 15,000 people expected to attend the big event in Elkhart and another 20,000 anticipated at Mishawaka’s Summerfest, organizers are making special arrangements to help cool down people.
5 of the 6 venues at the Jazz Festival are indoors and air-conditioned.
Outside around the Civic Plaza stage, large fans have been set up to offer some relief.
And you don’t need a ticket to step out of the heat and get a breath of cool air in the Lerner Theatre lobby.
Event planners in Mishawaka installed an additional four shade tents this year and plan on keeping the kid’s Splash Pad open day and night for people young and old to enjoy.
